The Community Impact Awards recognise the vast range of neighbourhood projects run by housing associations above and beyond providing homes.

Family Mosaic’s  Employment Team faced tough competition from 12 other shortlisted schemes, but was able to beat them all to be crowned the overall London winner of the National Housing Federation’s Community Impact Awards.

Personalised support and jobs brokerage

To date since the start of the Family Mosaic employment programme, it has supported over 750 people into work, including 140 this year alone. This year has seen an increased investment by Family Mosaic and an expansion of the programme to include more employment liaison officers to offer personalised employment support and a specialist job brokerage service which engages directly with employers to secure opportunities for our residents and customers.  This applies to Old Oak tenants too.

The achievement at the Community Impact Awards is recognition of Family Mosaic’s commitment to building the futures of residents and customers through training and employment opportunities, and should prove a boost to the Employment Team in achieving the ambitious target of supporting 1000 people into jobs over the next three years.

Collect your Child’s Free Bookstart Pack Now!!

Xmas & New Year Closing Times

Old Oak Community & Children’s centre is closed from 24th Dec to 1st Jan 2013.  It will re-open on 2nd Jan 2013.

The last sessions will take place the week commencing 17th Dec, with some sessions stopping for Christmas the week before. There will be no sessions on 21st Dec. All sessions start back week commencing 7th Jan 2013.

Old Oak Centre bulges at Seams

Last week was extremely busy at Old Oak Children’s Centre with some sessions seeing exceptional numbers of families during half-term.

Stay and Play ran all week, celebrating Eid on Tuesday and Halloween on Wednesday and extending the age range of children to 0-7yrs. All sessions were very busy with Tuesday’s session seeing a record breaking 38 families in two hours. The lunch time Cook and Play session was also full to capacity.

The centre also ran a special week long fashion programme for children aged 11-18 years over the school break. Over the week long programme we had 48 children attend.

Last month the centre received additional funding to expand its after school activities programme.

Meanwhile, Old Oak staff have been doing their bit to raise cash for charity, raising £260 on ‘Pink Thursday’. Staff baked for a cake sale and donned pink outfits to show their support.

All funds raised were donated to Breast Cancer Care and all diets have gone well out of the window!

Opening an Account with Hammersmith & Fulham Credit Union

The government is doing away with income based Income Support, income based Job Seekers Allowance, Employment & Support Allowance, Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credit & Working Tax Credit.  All of these benefits will be replaced by one single Universal Credit. It will be paid monthly, probably in arrears.  If you are used to getting Housing Benefit paid directly to your landlord you will have to make new arrangements to make sure that your rent is paid. 

Joining the Hammersmith & Fulham Credit Union is a great way for you to manage r your money. 

To become a member you must:

–       Live or work in the London Borough of Hammersmith & FulhamPart-time work and volunteering is OK as long as you spend a minimum of 16.5 hours in the borough each week.   

–       Show proof of your identity by providing at least 2 documents to prove your identity and address, such as: Passport / Driving Licence/DWP, Benefits confirmation letter/tax credit award.

–       Show proof of your address  by providing a recent utility bill/bank statement/mortgage statement/council tax demand/benefits letter.

–       Pay a one-off £3 joining fee to cover the initial cost of membership. This fee will be deducted from your first lodgement to the credit union. Unlike high street banks, we do not charge monthly or annual fees.

Social Security Benefits: Why not have benefits such as Universal Credit or Children’s Allowance paid directly to your local credit union. It is a great way to build up your savings for a rainy day!

Standing Order:  You can set up a standing order between your bank account and your HFCU account. This is an easy way to grow your savings at a pace you control.

PayPoint: All our HFCU Member cards allow our members to pay directly into their HFCU account at any PayPoint outlet throughout the country. There are over 70 PayPoint outlets in Hammersmith and Fulham alone.

Payroll Deduction : In 2008, staff from Notting Hill Housing saved over £90,000 through a Christmas Savings Scheme run by HFCU via payroll deduction.

Attractive dividend on savings: As every member of the credit union is a part-owner of the credit union, we give the profits back to you at the end of the year. We aim to pay an attractive dividend on members savings. At the end of our financial year we will write to all our members outlining our profits and let you know what the dividend will be for the year. Our aim is to grow to be able to pay a dividend of 4% – the maximum we’re allowed to pay out as a dividend is 8%.
