Come Enjoy A Free Community Meal This Sunday

July 11, 2018 in News by Old Oak Centre

FoodCycle East Acton is launching at the Centre on the 15 July 2018. They will be here at Old Oak Community Centre each week cooking tasty, community meals from surplus food.

Be our guest

Sunday afternoon’s feeling a bit bland?  You’re invited to FoodCycle East Acton for a super Sunday lunch! Food, fun and friendship each Sunday.  Join your community for a 3-course, vegetarian feast – it’s free, local and delicious! Plus, it’s made from food that would otherwise have gone to waste.  What’s not to love? No booking is necessary.

Where: Old Oak Community & Children’s Centre, 76 Braybrook Street, London W12 0AP

When: Every Sunday @ 2pm

Further Information: FoodCycle East Acton / [email protected] / 02077 292775

FoodCycle East Acton will only be possible thanks to great volunteers giving their time, enthusiasm and energy. We have opportunities available for people to come along and cook, host guests and be involved in collecting the surplus food donations from local suppliers.

You don’t need to have any previous cooking experience, although if you do that is just as welcome! We want as many local volunteers as possible and everyone is welcome to be a part of the team. Email [email protected] to get involved.

The community of East Acton is soon to benefit from a weekly, three-course community meal with FoodCycle, with help from a local social enterprise run by a brilliant bunch of children.

FoodCycle East Acton will open its doors on Sunday 15th July at 2 pm to serve a free meal at the Old Oak Community and Children’s Centre.

The project is running in partnership with Bubble & Squeak, a group of entrepreneurial children from West London who are fighting food waste by selling surplus food in the school playground and to the local community

Bubble & Squeak are supporting FoodCycle East Acton by providing an innovative storage solution in the form of a crowd-funded shipping container!

Eleanor Harrington of Bubble & Squeak says: “Bubble & Squeak is delighted to offer its crowdfunded shipping container at Old Oak Primary School as storage for FoodCycle’s newest Sunday session.

The partnership is a great opportunity to pool resources between Old Oak Centre, Old Oak Primary School and FoodCycle.  It ties in brilliantly with the Bubble & Squeak children’s core mission to work together to make a change in our local community – powered by surplus food!”

Mary McGrath, Chief Executive of FoodCycle says: “We are so pleased that FoodCycle East Acton will soon be running a weekly FoodCycle meal, and that we’re working alongside a wonderful local enterprise.

For many of our guests, a FoodCycle meal is the one chance a week they have to sit down and share a meal with others and I’d urge anyone who is interested in volunteering or visiting the project to get involved”.
